Golfing in Scotland

St. Andrews New Course
Scotland Golf Tours  - when it comes to international golf travel, consider Scotland as it is one of the best gold destinations in the World.  So, if you plan on traveling overseas on a golf vacation, there is no better place to visit than the birthplace of the game.  The golf courses in Scotland are the most beautiful and proudly boast 200 years of history behind them.

North Berwick

Scotland is a small country, but has more greens, golf courses and links within its borders than any other country, taking into account the size of the country.  So when you are creating your itinerary there are several ways to approach this; there are famous and historical courses you want to play and include in your plans, choose a part of the country you want to play golf, research the greens and links, and find out what the requirements are for booking a tee time, bearing in mind some courses may be booked months ahead and others are open to members only, OR you can contact Trinity Gold Club Travel and let them customized your golf and leisure journeys to Scotland.  Their dedicated team of golf planners have the experience and expertise to plan the ultimate trip of a lifetime.

Scotland has modern golf courses, but many of the most beautiful golf courses
Gullane
were designed and established two centuries ago, making them very challenging, partly due to the access of parking for golf fans.  It would be good to spend some time at the pubs and get to know a few locals who will let you in on the course secrets known only to them.  Many of these golf courses come highly recommended to the travel agents who also maintain their own list of 'best courses' to play in Scotland.  So contact Trinity Gold Club Travel to assist you with your golf travel plans.

Western Gailes
When planning your itinerary, consider Western Gailes Golf Course, ranked 15th in the top 100 golf courses of Scotland.  This golf course is one of the finest courses and has enjoyed visitors from around the world.  The golf course is situated between the railway and the sea; this is typical of the classic Ayshire links courses and special amongst the seaside courses that are no more than two holes wide, with its club house in a more central position leaving seven holes to the north and the other eleven to the south.  So, if you book a tee time at Western Gailes Gold Course, it has a reputation for giving the golfers the royal treatment that's hard to beat.

Remember when traveling to other countries, it is important to learn the local Etiquette, and to observe it.  For instance, in Scotland remove your hat before going indoors, pay attention to the dress code, and bring a jacket and tie for the club.

If you have the time to explore other courses, it will give you a good idea of where you would like to play golf when planning your next vacation.

Travel to Birr, County Offaly and spend 2 nights in the haunted Kinnitty Castle haunted by the 11th Earl of Kildare.  Visit Clonony Castle haunted by several ghosts, one that is seen at the top of the tower wearing old fashioned clothes.  Enjoy a "Welcome" dinner at Kinnitty Castle to meet your fellow travelers.

Day 2
Charleville Castle
After breakfast you will travel to Leap Castle said to be the most haunted castle in the World.  And the most terrifying creature known as the "It" or the "Elemental".  Then you will tour Charleville Castle that is said to be haunted by the youngest daughter (Harriett) of the 3rd Earl.  She's been caught on camera and heard singing and laughing throughout the castle.

Day 3
St. Canice's Cathedral
Travel to Kilkenny Hibernian Hotel where you'll spend 2 nights and explore the beautiful abbeys such as St. Canice's Cathedral & Round Tower and Kells Priory.  Several ghosts have been seen roaming the grounds as well as the organist's cottage. Enjoy a delicious meal at Kytelers Inn; the original owner of this Inn was Dame Alice Kyteler who was accused of casting evil spells on her four husbands, running a brothel and being a witch. Today's owner believes Alice's spirit still resides with the 740 year old walls.

Day 4
Kilkenny Castle
Kilkenny Castle  is one of the most visited buildings in Ireland.  Is it haunted?  Ghostly activity is found close to the dungeon where a number of people are thought to have died.  An electronic counter was placed in the Parade Tower and after hours it indicated an extra 100 people a night walk the tower halls.  Also visit Jerpoint Abbey one of the finest monastic sites in all of Ireland giving you an authentic glimpse into the ways of medieval monastic life.

Day 5
Kilmainham Gaol / Jail
Travel to the city of Dublin where you will tour Kilmainhham Gaol (Jail) one of the largest unoccupied (by humans anyway) gaols in Europe. Several incidents proving the existence of ghosts were experienced by those living here.  Sometimes children have been known to pause in sheer fright refusing to step inside the jail. Then tour Glasnevin Cemetery where one constant ghost has been seen. It is a black Newfoundland dog, wandering the paths of the cemetery.  With over 1.5 million burials opening in 1832, there are many spirits that wonder this cemetery.  Tonight you will enjoy a haunted tour of Dublin given by Hidden Dublin Tours.

Day 6
Today you will travel to St. Michan's Church & Crypts where you will see five long burial vaults containing the mummified remains of many of Dublin's most influential families.  Next you will tour Malahide Castle where many unseen spirits are felt in the castle's many rooms.  One of the popular spectres is that of the son of the Baron of Galtrim.

Day 7
You last day in Dublin will be Free Time to spend exploring and shopping on your own.  This evening you will enjoy a farewell dinner at the very haunted Brazen Head Pub.

St. Michan's Church and Crypt

St. Michan's Church and Crypt is best known for the mummies in its underground crypt. The structure is simple and drab, with a large 15th century battlement tower being the one impressive feature.

As your eyes grow accustomed to the dark, you will notice in some of the chambers, coffins are stacked in untidy piles as generations of the same family lie on top of one another.

From the weight of the coffins being stacked on top of each other, the weight has resulted in the coffins collapsing into each other.  Arms, legs or even heads have protruded from their final resting places. Despite the fact some of these people died 500 years ago, they have not crumbled into dust, but preserved, like mummies, their flesh the texture of tanned leather.

Their joints are supple and actually move.  The preservation is thought to be the result of the air being chemically impregnated or that the limestone in the basement, or the presence of methane gas from the swampy soil below may have been created naturally.

The oldest mummy, nicknamed "The Crusader" is a Norman man believed to have lived during the 13th century.  His arm pokes out of the casket and it has become tradition to "shake hands with the Crusader".  Most people just touch his hand lightly.

Tales of ghostly happenings pale in comparison to the reality of the crypt. People have heard strange voices, whispering around them and some have felt ice cold fingers run down their necks as they examine the residents of the crypt.

Behind the church are a bunch of cellar doors the opens down to a different crypt.

Also behind the church is the graveyard with beautiful old headstones.

This is just one of the many interesting places we visit on our Haunted Ireland Tour, October 2014.  This is an exclusive tour for those interested in staying in a haunted castle, visit haunted castles, abbeys and churchyards, and participate in a Haunted Dublin Walking Tour.

Leap Castle - The Most Haunted Castle

Leap Castle
Leap Castle - some say is the most haunted castle in the world.  And is now known as the Bloody Chapel" because of a shocking murder that occurred there.

Leap Castle has a trubulent and bloody history, used as a fortress, home and tomb.  Leap Castle is home to many fascinating and sometime horrific spirits.  Built in the early 1500's, it has been the center of much bloodshed and brutal attrocities.

There are SO many spirits/ghosts that haunt this beautiful old castle.  The reputation of being haunted is so strong that local people avoid it at night.

The Bloody Chapel
The Bloody Chapel is home of many spirits and people passing the castle have reported bright light streaming out of the upper windows.  Strange smells of rubber have also been reported during peoples visit to the upper hall.

Another ghost there is known at The Priest.  Story is brother fought brother to gain Chieftainship. One brother murdered his brother, a priest whilst performing a mass in the upper hall of the Castle.

The Lady in Red
One of the spirits encountered has been described as a very tall woman clothes in a red dress.  She has been seen carrying a dagger in her hand, raised in a menacing manner.  A strange luminescence is seen radiating within her.

Two young girls have also been seen at Leap Castle.  They are mainly seen playing in the main hall and running up the stairwell.  They are believed to have lived in the castle during the 1600's.

I think the most scary of the spirits here at Leap Castle is known as "The Elemental".  It is an entity that is shrouded in mystery and intrigue.  The story goes that Mildred Darby (the Darby's inhabited Leap Castle from 1642 until it's burning in 1922) dabbled in the occult.  Her activities focused on seances and automatic writing.  Some think that it was her dabbling that either awoke or summoned the Elemental.  It was around that time that the horrific discovery in the Oubliette, three cartloads of bones, approximately 150 bodies were found.  It was shortly after that that Mildred Darby had her terrifying encounter with the Elemental.

There are so many more stories to share about the ghosts that still linger at Leap Castle. These are just a few.  Join us on our Haunted Ireland Tour and make your own experiences.  Take pictures, get a "feel" for the entities that are still here.  What will you see?  Will one of them contact you?

The Royal Military Tattoo - Scotland

From its early days, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo has been an international favorite.

Performers from over 46 countries have taken part in the Tattoo.  It is performed against Edinburgh castle's majestic backdrop and features exciting contributions by Her Majesty's Royal Marines, Highland Dancing, the Bank of the Royal Regiment of Scotland and the world-famous Massed Pipes & Drums.  A big favorite of the Tattoo is the performance of the Lone Piper on top of the imposing walls of Edinburgh Castle.

Now, on average, just over 222,000 people see the Tattoo live on the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle.

The Tattoo's link with the Castle are also significant. A military garrison until 1920, the Castle was a natural place to host the Tattoo.

The first Edinburgh Tattoo took place in 1050 and there were eight items in the program.  The Tattoo is set up and run for charitable purposes.  Over the years, it has gifted some 8 million Euro to service and civilian organizations.  The word "tattoo" comes from the closing-time cry in the inns in the Low Countries during the 17th and 18th centuries - 'Doe den tap toe' (Turn off the taps).

To see a selection of the video clips from previous years Tattoos, click on the link to watch:  Edinburgh Military Tattoo videos.

Trinity Gold Club Travel is offering an exclusive trip to Scotland which includes attending the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in August, 2014.  To get details about the upcoming tour, visit our website at:  Trinity Gold Club Travel
